From Melbourne, Australia, James Reka is a young contemporary artist who has established himself as a pioneer in Melbourne’s burgeoning street art scene. Communicating through strong lines, dynamic movement and bold colours, his character work has come to represent the beginning of a new style of street art. Reka has developed an incredibly diligent, almost obsessive attention to the technical proficiency of his work, and it has moved him towards producing ever-increasingly meticulously detailed work. His recent transition from a street artist into the formal art world has created more demand and interest in his work. During a recent interview, Reka talks about his transition, "For me, exploring new techniques and mediums is an important aspect of being an artist. Doing gallery-work was a great way for me to branch out and explore new avenues of creativity." He recently completed work in New York City and Berlin.
